System: Perforated Graphic Imaging Wall System
Dimensions: 616 Sq Ft.
Location: Norfolk, VA
Year of Completion: 2023
The panel system utilized a double-folded design, simplifying installation by allowing direct screw fastening through the rear panel leg via strategically placed access holes in the panel’s face, perfectly aligned with the artwork. This innovative approach ensures a more efficient and cost-effective solution while preserving the ability to create intricate, detailed images across the façade. The perforations, spanning across the folds of the panels, ensure a seamless, uninterrupted presentation of the image, enhancing the overall visual appeal of the structure.
For this project, we selected .080″ thick aluminum, custom post-painted in a color that meets the AAMA 2605 high-performance exterior finish standards. The material was chosen not only for its durability but also to complement the visual impact of the design.
An artist was commissioned to craft a layout that reflects the project’s connection to the natural environment and the ecological restoration spearheaded by the local non-profit organization. The imagery, meticulously depicting wildlife like the Brown Pelican—once nearing extinction but now returning to the Elizabeth River—serves as a powerful symbol of the ongoing restoration efforts. It was an honor to reproduce this compelling artwork onto the building’s façade.
